SPARK LIFE INTO YOUR INTERIOR SPACES USING FAUX PLANTS
As the summer season tiptoes into the cooler, cozier days of fall, the lush greens of summer transform into the reds and golds of autumn. With those brightly colored leaves come cooler (and very welcome!) nights around the firepit, lazy mornings with steaming cups of coffee, and many of the nicest temperatures of the year in Wisconsin.
Stepping into a new season often gives us the urge to update our interior spaces to reflect both the change in scenery outside, but also the shorter days and cozier nights ahead. One of our favorite ways to create ambience inside after a summer spent outdoors, is to bring (faux) greenery into your space. While we love the look of live plants, faux plants offer a boost of color and life without the upkeep of their living counterparts.
Here are 10 tips for adding faux greens to your interior design this fall!
1. Add a few single stems to a glass vase with real water. The water helps the faux flowers or greens look more realistic!
2. Choose high quality plants. If you can tell something looks fake in the store, it will look fake in your home, too! Look for realistic colors, bendable stems and easy-to-clean materials.
3. Use faux plants to add vertical depth to your space by hanging a basket from a ceiling hook, or setting a plant on top of a tall shelf.
4. Select an interesting container. Most faux plants come with containers that are a dead giveaway for being fake. They might be too small for the size of the plant or look unnatural. Try placing your faux plant into a large basket or container that fits the size of the plant.
5. Dust regularly! While faux plants are much less maintenance than real plants, they still need to be cleaned or they’ll gather dust. Use a wet cloth to wipe the leaves of dust and keep your faux greens looking good as new!
6. Group different containers together. Try pairing taller faux plants with smaller sizes to create visual interest.
7. Add faux greens to areas in your home that wouldn’t be ideal for real plants. Think: bathrooms, dark corners, high traffic spaces.
8. Mix and match your faux plants with real plants to help “disguise” the faux greens.
9. Add real soil to your container. The easiest way to do this is to cut a cardboard circle to set around your plant, and then fill soil on top of the cardboard.
10. Swap out your faux plants seasonally for an instant refresh of your space. Think bright whites and pastels in the spring, moody reds in the winter, straw in the fall and hydrangeas in the summer!
