3 WAYS TO TAKE YOUR BACKYARD GET-TOGETHER TO THE NEXT LEVEL
Before you wrap up another summer at the lake, don’t miss your chance to host friends, family and neighbors at your abode. While the most important thing in hosting guests is the enjoyment of all, you can take the experience to the next level by following these three pro-tips and tricks.
Step 1: Offer Varied and Plentiful Seating Options for Your Guests
The most important step in hosting a successful outdoor get-together is making sure you have enough spaces and options for everyone to feel comfortable.
Think about how many guests you’re expecting, and whether they will be chatting by the fire pit, dining at a table, or strolling around with a glass of wine. Consider adding a few extra Adirondack chairs down by the fire pit, or creating additional seating around your dining table.
If you know you’ll have younger guests, laying out picnic blankets in the yard can help save the chairs (and table space!) for the grown ups.
Step 2: Set the Ambience and Mood Through Lighting, Music, and Decor
Whatever type of to-do you’re planning to have, there are ways to easily create a mood or festive atmosphere.
Are you hosting a wine and cheese night? Consider adding some outdoor string lights, small lanterns or flickering, flameless candles to your space. These low-light options add a bit of ambience to your space without much time or financial investment.
If you’re hosting a party with kids, think about creating a playlist of upbeat favorites to play on an outdoor speaker, and make sure you’ve tucked away the more breakable, fragile decor.
Step 3: Treat Guests to Something Special and Unexpected
One of our favorite tips for hosting is offering something unique or unexpected for your guests. You can think big (a live musician, twilight boat ride or unique favors) or small (s’mores bar, lawn games or signature cocktail), but the possibilities are endless. By sharing a unique experience, food or drink with your guests, you’ll give them something to do while they’re visiting and something to remember long after they’ve left.
