DESIGN THE IDEAL GUEST ROOM FOR SUMMER DAYS
We’ve hit the midway point of the busy summer season, with the 4th behind us and those lazy August days still ahead. Summer season = travel season, and often, that means hosting family and friends at the lake. Late night bonfires, festive cookouts, slow mornings with coffee and an Adirondack chair…there’s truly nothing better than summertime with those you love in a place you love!
We’re here to help you set up the perfect welcoming spot for your guests this summer with our top 3 tips for designing the ideal guest room for summer days. With a few small, intentional moves, you can make sure your guests will be pampered while they enjoy their time with you!
Cloud-Soft Bedding
We’re huge proponents of swapping out bedding for the season (see last month’s post for details!) and bedding is truly key when it comes to setting up an ideal space for your guests. While it might be tempting to toss on whatever you have already laying around your house, by intentionally choosing something that looks and feels fresh and inviting, you’ll elevate the look of your space in an instant.
We love the look of bright neutrals (whites, taupes, creams) in a guest room, since it gives you an open palette for adding pops of color through decor, artwork or pillows. For summer, think lightweight organic cotton quilts or linen duvets. Pair the bedding with high quality pillows to help your guests sleep tight after a busy day at the lake!
Light & Airy Decor
Keep your decor light and airy in your guest room to simplify both your design aesthetic and avoid clutter.
For summer, try setting out a vase of fresh flowers on the nightstand or dresser, or a bowl of colorful fruit. A few candlesticks can also help achieve a relaxing “vacation” vibe and are an easy option for swapping out colors each season. On the walls, we love simple prints that suggest vacation: boats, water, flowers, trees, etc.
Don’t overdo your decor, and make sure you leave plenty of space on the dresser for your guests to set out their belongings!
Breezy Scents
While it’s best not to overdue fragrance in a guest room, having a hint of fresh, breezy scents is a great way to make your guest room feel inviting. Try tucking a lavender sachet into the drawers, or spritz some lavender spray onto the bedding to help create a peaceful, relaxing space. We also love diffusers, which are both subtle enough to not overpower the space, and fragrant enough to give the space a boost.
